    Yorkshire Range restoration

This range was found boarded up in a room that had been used as a dentists surgery in Batley.  When we arrived the range was evidently in very poor order with parts missing, damaged or simply corroded so badly that they were as thin as paper.  We removed the range, took it back to our workshops and after a lot of work were able to reinstate it in the same fireplace.  Much to the delight of our client we lit a fire before leaving to test the range and demonstrate how it works.  It was the first fire lit in its grate for over 80 years.

  • 1870s Carron Company ‘Open Range’

    1870s Carron Company ‘Open Range’

This is an interesting ‘open range’ that we restored for a client in Scotland.  It dates from the 1870s and was most likely manufactured by Carron Company, Stirlingshire.  It was in a terrible state when it arrived with several missing parts and many original parts beyond repair.  We carried out the full restoration here at our workshops in Bristol and brought it back to life again before shipping it back to Scotland to be installed.

  • Hostess No 34 Stove range, Columbian Stove & Iron Works

Hostess No 34 Stove range, Columbian Stove & Iron Works

Here we have the very rare Hostess No.34.  This one has been made entirely by ourselves here in Bristol from our own patterns.  This has been manufactured as an exact replicas of the originals except all sheet metal has been replaced with Stainless Steel and the high finish electroplating is now triple plated copper, nickel, nickle.  The green colour is Vitreous Enamel (fused galss) and is available in 5 different original colours.  These little ranges can be made to order.

  • DUX Kitchen range, William Green & Co Ltd of Ecclesfield

DUX Kitchen range, William Green & Co Ltd of Ecclesfield

This is a DUX manufactured by William Green & Co Ltd of Ecclesfield.  It was installed in a property in High Wycombe and was removed and restored by Osborne Restoration back to working order.  The original stone surround was damaged beyond repair so we source and restored an original of the same design.  This range originally dates from circa 1890 and was in a terrible state when we first surveyed the job.  A lot of hard work has gone into bringing this one back from the brink not to mention the rebuilding of half the chimney breast to save it from collapse!

  • Beeston Boiler Robinhood Junior

    Beeston Boiler Robinhood Junior

This is a Robin Hood Junior boiler that we have restored for the newly restored gardens of Hadspen House, Somerset.  It was first installed in 1926 in the Co-op Warehouse, Hayling Island and provided heating for the entire facility.  Osborne Restoration source this extremely rare appliances and have brought it back to working condition to power the glass house at the historic gardens.

  • Gold Medal Eagle Range

    Gold Medal Eagle Range

Here we have another Gold Medal Eagle Range.  This model is one of the first to have the ventilating canopy though it sports a different design to the later New Gold Medal Eagle range.  This range was installed into the kitchen of Triley Court, Abergavenny when the kitchens were extended circa 1900-1910.

Extensive work was carried out in order to bring this range back into working order though the client stopped short in not requiring the ovens to be functional.  Huge efforts were made in clearing the chimney by out team and a total of thirty bags of soot, dust, dead birds and other filth were removed before repairs could begin.  Patterns and replacement castings were produced as well as countless repaired parts using mechanical, brazing and electric welding techniques.

  • Antique Yorkshire Range in Chepstow

    Antique Yorkshire Range in Chepstow

This is a beautiful little Yorkshire Range strangely found in some 1930s tenement housing in Chepstow!  We have seen Yorkshire Ranges as far south as the midlands but finding one in Monmouthshire is very odd.  I wonder if there is an interesting story behind it?

We recommissioned this range without removing it.  It required a new firebox constructing, a replacements closure plate and repair to the flaunching and gather.  There were also several patterns and castings to produce as well as several welding repairs that were carried out at our workshops after removing the parts.  All in all it was a satisfying job and this image was sent to us from the client showing the first fire they have had in the range.

  • New Gold Medal Eagle Range

    New Gold Medal Eagle Range

We completed the installation of a huge New Gold Medal Eagle Range last week.  It has been fully restored and installed so that it is fully functional.  Such ranges take a huge amount of work to bring back to their former glory but we feel they are worth the effort at the end of the day.  This range has been returned to the original building where it was originally installed circa 1920.  We will be returning to site to oversee the installation of the original glazed brick surround and again at the end of the year to demonstrate to the client how to use this stunning piece of antique domestic technology.

  • The “Wellstood” range

    The “Wellstood” range

This fantastic “Wellstood” cooking range arrived at my workshops yesterday evening. The “Wellstood” was the top of the range appliance from the famous ‘Smith & Wellstood’ company at the time and their ranges could be found in many of the larger establihsments around the Bristish Isles and beyond. This one is in pretty reasonable order but will be restored to the high standard that it is deserving of.
The other image shows an engraving from an original catalogue of the a very similar model.

  • Diamond stove in stock

    Diamond stove in stock

I recently go this ‘Diamond’ stove in stock by the Columbian stove and iron works of Smith and Wellstod. It would be well at home in a boat, waggon or van. If you are interested in this stove do get in touch as it won’t be around for long!
