    Grate restoration at Hinton House

We completed the restoration and installation of the huge Gold Medal Eagle Range at Hinton House a while ago now but we were asked back to site to attend to the multitude of grates in the bedrooms and living spaces of the manor.  Below are a few of the nicer examples we restored for the client including a lovely circa 1800 Coalbrookdale forest pattern hob grate, a regency engraved and polish steel trim and a collection of matching late 19th century register grates.

‘New Gold Medal Eagle Range’ restoration complete at Hinton House

We have just completed the restoration and installation of this fantastic New Gold Medal Eagle Range.  It is original to the building, dating from circa 1920 and removed by our team two years ago when the work at Hinton House formally began.  We successfully  lit a fire in the grate for the first time in probably in excess of 70 years and it drew perfectly.  Very pleased with this one.

    Gold Medal Eagle Range

Here we have another Gold Medal Eagle Range.  This model is one of the first to have the ventilating canopy though it sports a different design to the later New Gold Medal Eagle range.  This range was installed into the kitchen of Triley Court, Abergavenny when the kitchens were extended circa 1900-1910.

Extensive work was carried out in order to bring this range back into working order though the client stopped short in not requiring the ovens to be functional.  Huge efforts were made in clearing the chimney by out team and a total of thirty bags of soot, dust, dead birds and other filth were removed before repairs could begin.  Patterns and replacement castings were produced as well as countless repaired parts using mechanical, brazing and electric welding techniques.

    New Gold Medal Eagle Range

We completed the installation of a huge New Gold Medal Eagle Range last week.  It has been fully restored and installed so that it is fully functional.  Such ranges take a huge amount of work to bring back to their former glory but we feel they are worth the effort at the end of the day.  This range has been returned to the original building where it was originally installed circa 1920.  We will be returning to site to oversee the installation of the original glazed brick surround and again at the end of the year to demonstrate to the client how to use this stunning piece of antique domestic technology.
